Fullback Taniela Rawaqa's second-half try set up Fiji's 24-12 win over Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup today.

Three penalties saw Japan led 9-3 at halftime but the hosts fell behind 10-9 when Sireli Naqelevuki's ran in a converted try for Fiji 10 minutes after the break.

James Arlidge put Japan back on top with his fourth penalty goal of the match.

Rawaqa then put Fiji ahead for good with a try midway through the second half that gave the visitors a 15-12 lead. Vereniki Goneva added a late converted try to seal the result.

Fiji improved to 2-1 in the six-nation tournament while Japan fell to 1-2.

In other weekend play, Australia A overwhelmed Tonga 90-7 and the New Zealand Maori beat Samoa 17-6. Australia A leads the standings with 14 points and the New Zealand Maori have 12 after three rounds. Samoa and Tonga are 0-3.
