ROBBIE Deans will be delighted with last night's win and the confidence it will give the Wallabies. But he'll also be realistic enough to know it's nothing compared to the Tri Nations.

Due to their local championship, the French sent out a side with 150 Test caps and four players made up most of those. They were enthusiastic but lacked any real nous and cohesion. They dominated possession in the first half - 65 per cent in fact - but had little idea what to do with it.

Deans will be concerned with the amount of possession against us in the past few weeks, but this was the hit-out that he was hoping for. It's a new team and Deans gave the players a chance to run through some new plays. The lineout was adequate. Sebastien Bruno's throw-in and the French organisation caused us a few problems, but it's different to what we'll face against South Africa.

Australia had a couple of good scrums but also lost concentration on occasions. Australia looked good at the breakdown. We were competitive, but deep down we know we weren't put under the pressure that is coming our way. But it was definitely a step in the right direction for the Wallabies.

Another adjustment for Deans will be switching to the new laws, as the Tri Nations will be played under the ELVs, which will suit us.

It's certainly the most cohesive the Wallabies have looked so far, despite the low quality of the opposition. But you can only play what is in front of you and Australia did well. Suncorp Stadium is a happy hunting ground for the Wallabies and they will be looking forward to the Bledisloe Cup match there later this year.
