GLAMOROUS back-line stars may be attracting the eyes and headlines, but the Western Sydney Rams' forward pack will be hogging the limelight in tonight's crucial match against Canberra.

Against a Vikings pack featuring three World Cup shadow squad members and another two Wallabies, it will be left to the likes of Ben Alexander and Wil Brame - as opposed to Kurtley Beale and Lachlan Turner - to get the Rams home. Rams skipper and second-rower Ben Hand revealed his side will be keeping it tight at Parramatta Stadium.

"It is in the forward pack that we believe we can lay the foundation. Particularly with some of the injuries to our back line [Lachlan Mitchell, season, Chris Siale, one week] we want to keep it in the forwards, make sure we do the hard work up front before we spread it," Hand said.

The competition leaders have so far dominated opposition scrums and ravaged rucks, but Hand realises that the Vikings are also desperate to secure a top-two spot for a home semi-final. Nic Henderson, Alister Campbell, Adam Wallace-Harrison, Julian Salvi and Jone Tawake don't exactly have reputations for being generous ground-givers.

"At the beginning of the season, on paper, I don't think our forward pack would have given other teams too much to think about. As the season has gone on, some of our performances would have had other sides standing up and taking notice," Hand said. "This is a very important game … they are probably the best pack we will play against - along with Perth. They have got … Wallabies up front."

Rams halfback Josh Holmes has greatly benefited from his pack's dominance, having time and space at scrums and breakdowns to unleash the pretty boys outside him.

Just six points separates the top six teams on the ladder with two rounds remaining before the finals, and the Ballymore Tornadoes are the only side who cannot make the semis.

Second-placed Melbourne host the Central Coast Rays this afternoon at Olympic Park, while Sydney Fleet welcome the East Coast Aces to North Sydney Oval tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Drummoyne can become the first club in 16 years to win back-to-back Kentwell Cups when they play Colleagues in the NSW Suburban Rugby division one first grade grand final today.
