All Blacks wing Doug Howlett is in the clear after allegedly damaging two vehicles following a night of drinking at a hotel bar in London.

Howlett was arrested when he was seen jumping on two cars parked at the Hilton Hotel at Heathrow Airport after the All Blacks crashed out of the Rugby World Cup.

He released a video apologising to his fans, which is posted on his website.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said police confirmed yesterday that no further action would be taken in the case. She declined to comment further.

Howlett's lawyer David Jones had previously said he was optimistic the winger would not be prosecuted over the incident that Howlett described as "tomfoolery".

"If they look at it sensibly, it was boys out drinking being silly, doing things they normally wouldn't do," Jones said.

One of those whose car was badly dented, David Poole, a London human resources manager, has previously told the Star-Times after the incident that he wanted an apology and was sending the repair bill to the New Zealand Rugby Union.

Howlett, who became the All Blacks record tryscorer during the tournament but was dropped for the quarter-final against France, still faces disciplinary charges from the NZRU.
