DAVID Lyons's World Cup tournament is over after confirmation he fractured his fibula in Saturday's group match against Canada.
Lyons, in his first match since he was forced out of the July Bledisloe Cup encounter in Auckland after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis, had to be helped from the field in the 45th minute after fracturing his left leg in a tackle. "This is very disappointing and hard on me because I've had two years of solid injuries," Lyons said on Sunday morning. "But this comes with the territory I suppose."
Lyons knew the injury was serious, saying: "I felt a crack."
Lyons will delay his return to Sydney for surgery by a few weeks due to his DVT condition.
It has yet to be decided who will replace Lyons. Selectors originally picked three No.8s - Lyons, Wycliff Palu and Stephen Hoiles.
Wallabies coach John Connolly on Sunday said selectors may choose another inside back, with Waratahs Morgan Turinui, Kurtley Beale or Force utility Ryan Cross on the shortlist.
