THE sight of Al Baxter staggering in pain with his hand pressed to his eye was a sharp reminder to coach Ewen McKenzie of how quickly fortunes can turn.

The Waratahs prop took a whack to his left eye socket during training on Tuesday, prompting fears he may miss Saturday's game against the Stormers. Baxter was still waiting for the results of scans on Wednesday morning.

While McKenzie was confident Baxter would be cleared to play, the incident vindicated his call to pick four props in the touring squad, with Matt Dunning ruled out on Monday with a calf injury.

Winger Lachie Turner was recovering from a bout of gastroenteritis, while doubts remained over fullback Sam Norton-Knight, whose vision was affected by a knock in the Bulls clash.
