THE Waratahs will wait until the last minute to confirm their line-up for tomorrow's Super 14 derby against the Reds, believing the delay could unnerve Queensland centre Morgan Turinui.
The Waratahs have until one hour before the 7.30pm kick-off to officially name their 22-man line-up and yesterday named a squad of 11 backs and 12 forwards for the Suncorp Stadium match. By waiting as long as possible, the Waratahs are trying to make the best use of the short turnaround between games. They returned to Australia from South Africa on Monday night.
However, the Waratahs camp has noticed Turinui has been trying to guess who will oppose him at No.13 and is curious to know if it will be Timana Tahu.
Coach Ewen McKenzie was happy to milk whatever gain there might be by keeping the Reds in the dark about his selection - that could be his last as NSW coach should the side lose and not make the semi-finals.
"I don't know if they are worrying types," he said. "I am sure they would like to know what our teams is, and I am sure they will spend plenty of time trying to find out. Whether they do or not, I don't know.
"I know he [Turinui] has been on the phone a lot. I guess if he is not a worrying type he is worrying on someone else's behalf."
Tahu, who played well at outside-centre when he came off the bench in last Saturday's 13-13 draw with the Stormers, ran in the position at training yesterday - as did Rob Horne and Matt Carraro in several combinations.
"It gives me a bit of confidence that I am starting to get looked at as a centre, not as a winger," Tahu said.
